SPECIAL EVENT!

SIP AND SPELL GAME FAQ’S

Where?! When?! Why!?

• We’re putting the FUN back into FUNdraiser with this unique twist on the traditional “spelling bee.” We love our library and wanted to find a way to support them while also bringing the community together in a creative and fun way. This event will take place at the very awesome Eight & Sand Brew Co. located at 1003 N. Evergreen Avenue, Woodbury, NJ. Game play will start shortly after 5 PM so come early to save a table!

How much are tickets and where can I buy them?

• Tickets are available to purchase at the library with cash or check made payable to “The Friends of the Woodbury Public Library” or online via credit card here. Tickets are $15 per person in advance or $20 per person at the door on the night of the event. We encourage participants to purchase their tickets ahead of time as we expect to sell out quickly!

How many people can play on a team?

• Up to six players can be on a team. This limit will be strictly enforced. Start thinking of a great team name now and there may be a treat in your future! If you want to play but don’t have a team, please come anyway! We can always find you a team that needs an extra wordsmith, or you can play solo if you’re brave enough.

How will the game work?

• Sip and Spell will consist of 5 themed-rounds of 8-10 words that your team will have to spell. We will give you the definition, part of speech, and will use it in a sentence. Each team will receive a game-play card where they will write down their answers. In between rounds judges will score each teams’ card and announce the standings. For some added fun, we will sprinkle in some bonus rounds where one player from each team will come up and compete head to head with nothing but a dry erase board and marker!

Can I be a spectator?

• Of course! The more the merrier! However, a entry fee will still be applied. We have designed this game to more in the format of “quizzo” and less than a traditional spelling bee. While there will be times that competitors will be in front of the crowd spelling head to head, the majority of the spelling will be done at each team’s table on their game card.

I bought tickets, now how can I get a leg up on the competition?!

• Read the flier very carefully. Also “like” and follow The Friends of the Woodbury Public Library on Facebook  leading up to the event for clues to the themes of the rounds.  If you have a specific question that we have not answered here, you can post your question on our Friends Facebook page. Also nerdy costumes are strongly encouraged!

WHO ARE WE?

The Friends of the Woodbury Public Library group is a non-profit organization committed to helping our library. The Friends sponsor special programs throughout the year and promote support for the library throughout the community. Every time you use your library card to check out materials you are benefiting from our great Friends organization!

Through the generous efforts of the Friends of the Woodbury Public Library, the library has been able to purchase computers and other equipment, and has added to existing collections such as our Large Print Books, Books on Tape and CD collections. A tremendously successful fund drive sponsored by our Friends organization resulted in donations that went a long way toward furnishing and decorating our new library building. Another of the Friends’ projects helps the library to bring downloadable audiobooks and eBooks to cardholders by subscribing to OverDrive, the leading distributor of digital media content to libraries.
